Longer days, balmy evenings, foggy mornings and beautiful sunsets…. and the smell of Meguiar’s Gold Class in the air… yep, it’s definitely summer time – and with summer comes the ubiquitous car show season!
The ‘car scene’ here on the Central Coast isn’t as fevered as it is in Southern California, but we play host to several good shows up this way, including the famous West Coast Kustoms show & cruise held in Santa Maria. The local municipalities also have their own shows which draw a decent amount of cars from both local residents and those wishing to escape the heat of the Central Valley.
One such show is the Lion’s Cambria Pinedorado Car Show, held during ‘Pinedorado‘ weekend (ie: Labor Day weekend). I’ve been lucky enough to provide the designs for their shirts the last three years, each of which has had a different theme.
The first year was ‘Those Fabulous 60s’, a tribute to the muscle cars and kustoms of that era. It made me happy to sneak a Rivi in there…. I love those cars.
Last year’s theme was oriented more towards the lifeblood of Cambria – The Tourist. Flocks of people come into town during the summer, and many families from out of town make Pinedorado a tradition, so this theme was only fitting.
This year the theme salutes our military, and I went with a more patriotic theme. I got very lucky on this design as they thought my initial sketch of an All-American favorite – the ’57 Chevy – combined with a background of subtle fighter jet/tank/battleship elements was okay. I’m a firm ‘believer’ in one-car designs as long as they have the detail to really make them pop – I guess I got that from endless hours of poring over Greg Tedder’s famous designs back when I first got into cars and The Car T-Shirt. I really had to make this one killer! Chrome usually makes me a bit antsy, but I really had a good time doing this design.
These shirts will be available as it gets closer to September, and all proceeds from this car show go to support the Lion’s Club charities!
Once again, thanks for looking!
